ABOUT Regional Centre Vizag

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) was established in November,1989 as an autonomous organisation in pursuance of National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD), Government of India. NIOS is providing a number of Vocational, Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at Secondary and Senior Secondary level. It also offers Elementary level Courses through its Open Basic Education Programmes to cater to the educational needs of School dropouts, working adults, housewives and socially disadvantaged sections through distance education at the school stage. NIOS has also been vested with the authority to conduct and certify examinations for Secondary and Senior Secondary levels by the Government of India. NIOS operates through a network of various Regional Centres and Sub Regional Centres in India and about more than three thousand Accredited Institutions (AIs) and Accredited Vocational Institutions (AVIs) commonly known as Study Centres.

NIOS SRC Visakhapatnam was inaugurated by Smt.D.Purandeswari, Hon'ble Min. of State for HRD, Govt. of India on 24.07.2010. This was a Sub-Regional Centre covering the above activities in the Districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna & Khammam of Andhra Pradesh. Further SRC-Visakhapatnam is upgraded as full-fledged Regional Centre from 2014.  At present it has 13 Districts under its jurisdiction. In addition to the above districts (except Khammam), it includes Ananthapur, Chittoor, Guntur, Kadapa, Kurnool, Nellore, Prakasam.
